DOC PORTER'S RECYCLED BOTTLE CANDLES
Last year, Charlotte Candle Company was approached by Liz and Andrew Porter, owners of Doc Porter’s distillery, to help them fulfill the promise of a “nothing wasted" business philosophy. They wanted to recycle their tasting room sample bottles into long lasting, soy wax candles. At Doc Porter’s, making beautiful, handmade craft spirits is their passion. Every drop of Doc Porter's vodka, gin, and bourbon is made from scratch using locally-sourced grains from Marshville and Asheville, NC. As the collaboration took shape, Liz and Andrew selected the fragrances to be contained in their bottles. From there, Charlotte Candle Company hand cut, sanded, buffed and cleaned each glass bottle one by one. The 17oz. candles were poured in batches of four and they will burn more than 65 hours. And now Doc Porter’s sampling bottles are being used and recycled as vessels for beautiful, long-lasting, all-natural, soy wax candles for craft spirit and Doc Porter’s lovers to enjoy in their home.

DOC PORTER'S RYE: BLACKBERRY SAGE: During the days of Prohibition, whiskey makers developed a "creative" use for rye whiskey. "Rock and Rye" - rock candy soaked rye whiskey - where the sweet sugar from the candy helped take away the spicy characteristic bite of rye and made it much smoother to consume. Cleverly enough, this concoction also had a dual purpose, the beverage of choice in saloons, and a cure for what ailed you - such as the sniffles or a common cold. Around the turn of the 20th century, "Rock and Rye" was functioning as both a remedy and a refreshment branded as "alcoholic medicinal preparations". Because it was labeled as a medicine, it was not frowned upon by the temperance movement and therefore wasn't highly taxed like other hard liquors. Our Blackberry Sage candle boasts a wonderful combination of the sweet, tart scent of blackberries and the spicy, herbal tones of sage. Much like the whiskey used as "medicine" in early times, blackberry and sage are two ingredients widely used in herbal medicines today. NOTE PROFILE: Blackberry, Spice, Sage.
